Best affordabe hotel on 17th street for a couple in Fort Lauderdale in November ?

March 2, 2010 - 5:07 am 3 Comments

Me & my wife are going to Fort Lauderdale in November for a medical conference. We are offered good rates at Hyatt Pier 66 hotel around $200.00 per day. Just wondering if there’s anything cheaper or better at the same rate???? I wish there was somthing really nice close to the conference location under $100.00…..:)….come on guys help me out…….Also if u guys can’t suggest anything better or reasonable than hyatt one…….at least mention if Hyatt is close enough to downtown, beaches, shopping, restaurants etc. Thankss in advance…….Cheers….:)

Sheraton Yankee Clipper ? In downtown FTL ?

Maybe you want to go to biddinghelp.com and try to do a priceline in that hotel zone you want to stay in ?

Hyatt is a good , clean hotel , upscale place. If this convention is to be held on this site, you might prefer to stay in the hotel if you are planning to sneak back and forth to see wife / family during the day ? Sometimes you will have breaks or portions of the conference that it is not necessary for you to attend. You can meet your wife / if you are in same hotel ?? Also nice for your wife to meet the other wifes of other medical people / who will be in hotel under same circumstances too ?

The truth is that conferences are usually scheduled so tight during the day that it is difficult to get out to meet your family even if you are staying in hotel. You are almost best to schedule a return flight home 1 day later or go 1 day earlier. you wil have 1 day for family time without anyone taking your time.

you might prefer to go one day earlier / you will already know your way around and look briliant to your peers :-) LOL !

What are my chances for getting into any Ontario medical schools?

February 26, 2010 - 4:07 am 1 Comment

My stats: In 4th year (graduating this year), GPA- 3.88, MCAT – 11/12/11Q, 2 summers of research, 1 international conference abstract, junior national marathon champion, president of large campus group, peer-mentoring, tutoring, random scholarships… Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hey :)

First – check out Premed101 forums; it’s an incredible resource!

Second – You will very very likely get interviews at both Western and Queens (considering that they only base interview offers on MCAT and GPA). After that pt, your acceptance depends largely on your interview (and other factors) :) It’s less certain with other schools, but on the whole, you chances look great. Particularly if you are able to present yourself well at interviews :)

Good luck!

My flexible spending acct will not reimburse me for medical expenses. How/where do I complain?

February 24, 2010 - 4:30 am 2 Comments

I sent the claim by 7/31/06 -the cut off date, but my employer had changed the account from "spouse" to "dependent child" and I did not notice right away. Now they will not pay because we have no children. I have called 30 times and sent 5 letters. At one point, during a conference call between me, admin, & employer, employer said they would reimburse, but that was 11/2006 and have not gotten the check yet. When I call, no one can help me. It is for $300 that was taken out of my paycheck and I want it back!

If you have a copy of the original form you filled out, you should be able to get them to change it. I set up a dependent care account once and they set it up as a medical spending account instead. Once they were able to confirm that I had requested dependent care and not medical on my application, they transferred the funds.

The Surgical Society at Imperial College School of Medicine (ICSM) is proud to present Trauma Conference 2008 – a National Conference on Trauma Medicine for medical students. Now in its third successful year, this year’s conference is taking place on the 8th-9th November 2008 at the Sir Alexander Fleming Building, South Kensington Campus, London, SW7 2AZ.

The aim of the Trauma Conference 2008 is to provide over 200 medical students from across the United Kingdom and Europe with the opportunity to gain unrivalled teaching in the extremely popular field of Trauma Medicine/Surgery. Our highly dedicated Surgical Society Committee has worked very hard to put together a comprehensive weekend timetable which covers all major aspects of Trauma Management as outlined in the most recent edition of the American Trauma Life Support (ATLS) 2004 guidelines.

The programme includes both lecture and practical-based teaching. Practicals serve to consolidate students’ knowledge from lectures and give attendees the unique opportunity to strengthen key practical skills. All lectures and practical sessions will be instructed by high-ranking medical staff from Imperial College teaching hospitals, including the renowned St Mary’s and Charing Cross Hospitals.

Two doctors meet at a bar during a major medical conference, one male and one female. They both talk and one thing leads to another and both doctors were in a hotel room. Before undressing the female doctor washed her hands, after sex with the male doctor she washed her hands again. The Male doctor says "Let me guess, you’re a surgeon." The female doctors asks "How’d you know?" The guy goes "You keep washing your hands." The female doctor replies, "You must be an anaesthesiologist." The guy doc asks "Howd’s you know?" The lady replies, "Because I didn’t feel a thing."
